At Ultimate Software, we’re proud to partner with incredible female athletes who are working relentlessly to change the world and chase their dreams. In honor of #InternationalWomensDay, award-winning golfer Lexi Thompson shares her story with us, including the best advice she’s ever been given and why her mom is her #1 source of inspiration.

Has anyone ever told you your dreams or goals were unreachable?

Absolutely. When I turned professional at the age of 15, there were definitely some naysayers who negatively compared me to others. Even today, there are some who have publicly doubted whether or not I will achieve my ultimate goals.

How did you keep yourself motivated when the journey seemed daunting, or insurmountable?

I just take it a day at a time and keep my family, friends and team around me tight. I garner strength from those who love me and who know that I am doing my best, every day, to be the best person and athlete I can be.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Nancy Lopez advised me to “Find your Happy Medium” when it comes to balancing life both on and off the course. Golf is my job, and I have to enjoy life when away from it. It’s a hard balance that I believe every successful person deals with.

Who’s had the biggest impact on your career, and why?

My parents, 100%. My dad is my coach and my mom is my rock! They have sacrificed everything so I can do what I love and chase my dreams. Without them, there would be no golf career, so they have definitely had the biggest impact on my career!

What women inspire you, and why?

My mom is my inspiration. She has overcome so much in her life—including cancer, twice!—and she always prioritizes taking care of others…especially me! She taught me what hard work, perseverance, and unconditional love means.

What advice would you give to women or girls who want to follow in your footsteps?

DREAM BIG and never give up! Find out what your passion is in life and follow your wildest dreams!

When do you feel the strongest?

I feel the strongest after I put in the hard work necessary to succeed. When I know I have laid it all on the line and have nothing left in the tank…nothing feels stronger than that!

My family has recognized all the great qualities of Lexi since she turned pro. She is a role model for my daughter who is of similar age. In all my experience knowing Lexi she has demonstrated all the most positive qualities that reflect so well on her, her family, her sponsors and friends. She is most certainly a leading woman in pro sports , excellent young woman , and someone we ultimately can be very be proud of .
